CMT Insider: Thoughts from Katie

Posted: October 29th, 2007 at 11:43 am  |  By: Katie Cook

Katie Cook, host CMT InsiderWow, what a great show CMT Giants Hank Williams Jr. was. I was backstage grabbing interviews before it all started. Not only did I get to talk to Hank himself, but I also talked to Gretchen Wilson, Kid Rock, Tim McGraw, and even Steven Tyler from Aerosmith! Steven was a delight. There are some celebrities that you just expect to light up a room when they walk in (Dolly Parton, Wynonna etc..). I wanted Steven to be that way too. He walked up and was everything I was hoping for. He was funny, full of energy, and ready to shine. Despite the terrible fires in LA, the energy out there was great and I can't wait to see the show on CMT. It will air Saturday November 17th so we don't have long to wait.

why are you all not talking about the Country Music Extravaganza going on in KANSAS CITY MISSOURI WITH GARTH BROOKS ? THIS IS history -because it is in KC and not NAshville or LA? Do you know how many greats came to KC over all the years to play? IT IS TRISHA YEARWOOD AND GARTH BROOKS!!! They are the reason half of the current stars are even around - let these two come back and there will be others who fall -

I caught the Hank Jr. Giants show last night - GREAT JOB on picking the right artists to perform the right songs - many of the tribute events out there end up with artists decimating the icon’s songs - completely opposite on the HANK JR GIANTS show. GREAT JOB to CMT and all those responsible for putting it together the RIGHT WAY!!!!
The voices and styles really matched the songs they were paired with.

    AND…
I am so glad that Country Music is recognizing Hank for his music and all he is as an artist and an all-around extradorinary human being. Unfortunately, sometimes full recognition and appreciation comes once the person is no longer with us, but not with Hank Jr.!

I thought it was great to the full spectrum Hank Jr’s personality - from humble, heartfelt, somber, and pensive to the rough, rockin’, against-the-grain, party-animal outlaw artist we all love.

VERY COOL! Great Job on the WHOLE production CMT!!!

I THINK HANK JR’S SHOW WAS PRETTY GOOD, BUT I DON’T AGREE ON THE CHOICE OF SONGS. FOR INSTANCE, TOBY KEITH WOULD HAVE DONE A MUCH BETTER JOB WITH WHISKEY BENT AND HELL BOUND, AND TIM MCGRAW WOULD HAVE BEEN FINE WITH FAMILY TRADITION.

    Katie…

CHECK OUT DAVID FRIZZELL’S LATEST VIDEO ON CMT.COM “WATER MAKES HER CLOTHES STAY ON”. IT IS PROVING TO BE VERY CONTROVERSIAL AS TOO SEXY, TOO MUCH DRINKING AND TOO GAY FOR NASHVILLE. PEOPLE ARE MISSING THE MESSAGE OF THE SONG THAT A GIRL HAS A RIGHT TO SAY NO TO A CASSANOVA COWBOY AFTER HE BUYS HER DRINKS IN A CLUB.

Ok, this really has nothing to do with whatever anyone in this column in talking about, but what happened to the music videos on CMT? I for one, am a country fan who enjoys watching music videos on cmt. Why in the world do I need to watch the Dallas Cowboys’ cheerleaders from 2:00pm until 12:00am? What does this have to do with country music? Don’t try to be like, cowboys, they’re country, on me cause that’s a load. I find it amazing that there are a bunch of music video stations on TV, and that all of them combined only show about six hours of music a day. I know this isn’t the complaint section, but I couldn’t find it and needed to vent. I am sick of not being able to see music videos in the evenings. I work all day long and come home to some nonsense on CMT instead of music videos. Please fix this!
