Gone Country: Washing Cars and Baring Souls

One thing that is so important to country artists is giving back to your community, and one of the biggest things that sets country music apart is our level of charity for children's hospitals. You've got St. Jude's in Memphis, you've got the Vanderbilt Children's Hospital in Nashville. There are others all around the U.S., but those two in particular seem to be kind of pet projects of country music artists. Every year, major artists visit these hospitals. It's always an impactful thing to the kids, but it's always even more impactful for the artists because it really affects the way you think about your music. So I thought it would be a good idea to make the Gone Country cast wash cars for a day, raise some money and take that money down to the Vanderbilt Children's Hospital and make a donation and sing for the kids. I really think it turned out to be the most meaningful day of this entire process of Gone Country.
The cast members had no idea that was going to happen. In a short period of time, my job in this show was to do the best I could in exposing these artists to everything that I feel is important to me as a country artist. And part of that is getting down and dirty. You've got to be able to hang out with your fans, and you've got to not be afraid of hard work. Of course, washing cars has nothing to do with making country music, but it has everything to do with being down to earth -- that you'll get down on your hands and knees and wash somebody's dirty car. You may be a multi-platinum artist, but you'll wash somebody's dirty car and take the money to a children's hospital. Now, that's important. If we could get Paris Hilton to do that, she might have a different attitude, you know. You get Lindsey Lohan to do that, she might go, "Oh, wow! I'm a normal person!" Hell, yes, I would give Lindsey Lohan a hundred dollar bill to wash my car.
I'm not exactly sure how many kids they met at the hospital, but I do know there was one little girl that Bobby Brown is never going to forget. After he walked out of the room where she was, he went back in so they could hang out for another hour or so. While they were there, the doctors came out to the mom and dad of the little girl and told them she probably wasn't going to make it through the rest of the day. And Bobby fell just completely apart. I mean, that news just crushed him. Everybody said he came back home a different guy. Actually, some great news happened, though. About four days later, the little girl actually pulled out of it and, the last I heard, she's now back at home -- doing fine. Maybe Bobby might actually feel maybe he had something to do with it. She was excited when he sang and did his thing. I could easily see that having a positive impact on her.

Diana didn’t need to be taught about charity and giving of herself. She is already a role model with her charity involvement. She also went to Iraq and Afghanastan with the USO a couple years ago.

I enjoy the show. But, have to admit that I am not excited about how whiny the artists are. If you sign up to do a contest like this be sure and check it all out before you sign on the dotted line. Each one of the artist’s does well in their field of talent. Country is being real. not only with others but you need to be real with yourself. All of us have a little “Country” in us. Just take the time to find it and experience it and you will not forget it.

lame Lame LAME!! This is what passes for country music televsion? I love country music and Big & Rich, but
I’d rather watch a ‘test pattern’ than to see a bunch of one hit wonders and ex-reality stars mock the music I love this way. CMT, I miss you already.
Conway said it best - Don’t call him a cowboy till you’ve seen him ride!

I love the show. I think though that Bobby Brown needs to go. He’s a drunk and not exactly the best role model even though his life could be a country song him singing just doesn’t work for me. I loved Diana in American Idol and she can sing. Maureen needs to step it up cause she can do it. I admire you John Rich for taking on this challenge and look forward to seeing what you and the stars accomplish. Thanks. A avid fan, Kim
Evelyn says:
I love what your doing. These guys really need to learn what a real country star does and you are making that happen.
Baby Girl says:
I am enjoying the show so far, can’t wait to see this episode. It would have to be hard for any one who doesn’t know the country life to attempt to write a country song and sing it. Our lives are our soul, it’s what we know, how we are raised up. Seems it would be a hard thing to do if you know nothing about our way of life. I know it seems weird to see some of the guys and gals in the show wanting to sing country music, lots of people that listen to country will think it odd. I wish them all good luck. Hope they come out with a good leason learned and some good country tunes for us sing along too.
TDgrandkids says:
We will be there every episode(LOVE BIG & RICH).It’s all fantastic.Thank you.
Jayne says:
I was skeptical at first (sorry John!), but I’m loving this show! I love that it’s opening up the world of country to people who didn’t really know what it was about… I am not the biggest fan of Dee Snyder, but I can’t wait to see him grow in this experience… I think we’ve seen a little bit already. I wish the best for Bobby Brown. I never am sure what part of a show like this is real, or what parts are being emphasized or left out to sway your opinions. The first show or two, I thought… this is cool. We’ve always seen the bad@$$ side of him, but he seems like a pretty cool guy after all…. but now, hmmm….what’s he really like?? I love Carnie! She seems so down to earth, I hope she does very well. I hope they all do, really. And as always, I’m so incredibly impressed with John Rich. To have the insight to see that something like this can work. And to take the time to think so much about each person and about what drives them and which writers will really work best with them… how cool is that? I knew John and Kenny were pretty special before. Then they did a show at the Mid American Trucking Show last year that was hands-down the best show I’ve ever seen even though I was in the VERY BACK ROW!! LOL, and they made the drivers feel genuinely appreciated. Then I bought the book. And I am completely in awe. Keep up the great work!!! Can’t wait to see what’s next!!!
Laura says:
This episode will really hit home for me. I have a son with an incurable disease too. Crohn’s disease might not be as tragic as the others out there, but it is a reality my son must live with. He is my hero at 17 he has gone through alot more than I have, numerous doctors appointments, constant drug therapy a battery of tests and procedures. No known cure is another positive note. Kind of gets to me that we can’t find cures for these diseases, but we can formulate a drug for erectile disfunction. Where are our priorities??? I have been close to the fact of almost losing a child to illness, just have to treat every day as a gift. Love the show and Big and Rich… Keep Bobby away from the booze….
Groupie Grandma says:
I have become a faithful watcher. I love what John is making them do. You have to have it in your soul and heart to be country–not drunk, whiney, or still “wet behind the ears”. John if you read this have your staff listen to the album “Desperate Hours”. It is written, produced (in the back of the Alley), sang and strummed all by the same man–a bonafide NORTHERNER!!! Invite Rick Whitwood, Wellsville’s locally famous musician down and put these top celebritites to shame. Now this man could very easily go country. He’s earned his stripes. He just needs the contacts.
Denise says:
John Rich, you are an incredible passionate man. I admire you for doing this project. I can’t wait to watch each episode. It brought tears to my eyes when I read about Bobby Brown and the little girl. I think if someone can go to the aid of someone else that they don’t even know and somehow change their life, no matter how much of a screw up you are or not, that is a very good thing. Children are so speical and I think if more people were exposed to them, this world might be a little bit happier place. I have a son of my own, he is not sick in anyway, but I cherrish every moment I have with him.
Sylvia says:
I can’t believe how excited I am waiting to see each episode. At first I thought that Dee Snyder was a poor choice but I have a total different opinion of him now. Maureen is a really nice person and so are the rest of the gang. I am so impressed that these artists would take the time to grow outside of their area of expertise and I love them for that. Can’t they all be winners.
Yes they are!
Beth says:
I love this show and I love what John is trying to do on the show but I think it needs to be a little bit more like country boy boot camp. Country music isn’t for whiney pansies.
I believe being country is about being honest, hard working, compassionate, hospitable and respectful. A country boy says “yes, sir” and “no, ma’m.” You bust your but all day and thank the good Lord every night that you can. It’s about taking time, slowing down and enjoying the natural things in life that God gave us. Like mud holes. Dirt roads. The moon on a clear night. Bullfrogs. Sitting around a bonfire and guitar pickin’. A country boy doesn’t need “bling” to be cool. We can live in a crappy house AND be happy.
However, I have seen more respect and class in country folk than alot of other people. We work with our hands for everything we have and we are proud of it. If you say a bad word about any of it you are insulting everything we spent our life on.
We work hard and play hard. All the contestants need to respect all of that and like it or country music fans will never accept them whether they win this contest or not.
There are alot of country music fans that will dis a country music star if the star gets too cocky and starts acting to “city”. We might like our music rockin’ but if ya start actin’ too big for your britches we’ll put ya on the burn pile with the rest of the trash.
Angela McDowell says:
Gotta admit, I don’t do reality tv, don’t watch much of it at all. However, I have to admit I love this one! Hits close to home.. born and raised in Murfreesboro, TN (now in IL). Thanks to all who are participating and who’ve created… it’s a show I look forward to watching! God Bless!
Pamela Jenkinson says:
I just love the show. I wish there were more fancy pants stars out there that could be shown just what it is like to be a normal person. They don’t know what it is like to work hard for what you have. Down to earth, hardworking people appreciate everything they have because they have to work hard to get what they need and to keep it. Hats off to you John Rich and the other creative minds that put together a great t.v. show. I look forward to it every week. I am a country girl at heart and just wish I could jump right in and show them how it is done!!
kera says:
Love The show. I am the wife of the owner of the car wash that the celebrities worked at!! We had an AWSOME time with all of them. It was a pleasure to help out with such a special charity. They raised alot of money for Vanderbilts Children Clinc, and I think they enjoyed it too! What better reason to work hard then children…If any of them dont make the country scene, we are hiring at the Car Wash. Cant wait to see our episode tonight. John Rich….You da man!!

***Please tell me again why Bobby Brown is on this show***
He doesn’t represent his own style of music, much less rep country music. It really is disgusting to watch is drunk behavior on the show. I enjoy the rest of the cast! Keep shining Diana.

Great show, definitely hooked. I used to live in Nashville, & worked @ Vandy. The show is bringing back wonderful memories.

Love this show! Can’t wait for Fridays to see what’s going to happen next. I was raising babies when Dee Snyder was popular so I’m not familiar with him, but he is my favorite on this show. For all his wild-looking background, he seems the most apt to be country deep down. I think he’s in for a big surprise when he discovers just how country he really is. Also, he’s such a good sport about doing everything. Except for caffeine, he hasn’t done much whining.
Good job, John Rich!
KimS652000 says:
Must admit this is a pretty good show. I’ve mucked the stalls, got on the tracker and cut the fields as well as put over a 100 bales of hay in the barn. I loved every minute of it too! Teach them the real meaning of country John and maybe they all will be better people for it. Country Music IS about country livin’ and you have to experience it to understand it. God Bless!
Leah says:
I don’t think country music is all about country living and kind of take that part of the show as the entertainment portion. Being able to muck a stall doesn’t make you a country singer or a good songwriter. That’s a bit of a ridiculous stretch and conceit.
Ann says:
The house the cast is staying in looks like Barbara Mandrell’s house, Fontanel. Is it???

I really liked this show the best…so far. Bobby Brown’s reaction to the little girl inspired me to write some lyrics. I think we were all crying along with the cast! I know I was.
I am so happy to hear that the little girl recovered and is now at home. Thank The Lord!

WOW!!! How much more emotional can one get. I am right up there with Bobby. God only gave me one child, and I am very thankful. She and I have survived 17 years and are still going strong. I don’t know what I would do without her. I am a preschool teacher and this episode touched me more than anything else I seen on tv in a long time. I can’t imagine having to say good-bye to your child let alone an infant. I knew Bobby had it in him all the time. Bobby use this to your advantage let all the feelings be your guide, let the music flow like the alchol has flowed for you. Your heart will lead you in the right direction. For the rest of the cast keep on doing what you are doing I think you all are great and I wish you guys alot of luck.
Pecinamom says:
Tonight’s show really tore my heart out. I lost one of my 9 children this past summer. She would be 17 now. Mary, like all my other children, was my heart. My comment is for all those parents who are there with their children. It’s the hardest pain you will ever know. Losing a child is like living through death, if you can imagine that. Every day I wish for it’s peace. Then I think of my other 8 kids and know I can’t go anywhere yet. My daughter, Mary, and all my other children, decided on organ donation long before anything ever happened. We decided that if anyone else’s life could be saved by our leaving, then so be it. I’m not sure how many lives Mary saved that day, I only know so far of a dad who needed a kidney transplant. She saved his life so he could be there to watch his 5 children grow. I do know that she was able to donate everything below the neck…heart, kidneys, lungs, liver, etc…She must have saved, at least, 8 lives that day. 8 families that don’t have to live with the pain that my other children and I go through each and every day. Please consider donation if God calls your children to be with Him. It’s so hard, but I’m so thankful that my children and I decided on it before anything happened. Look at it this way, our bodies are just a house we live in while we’re on this earth, when we move out of this house, why not take the plumbing, or anything else out of it that is still usable, and give it to a family that really needs it. Jesus said there is no greater love than if you lay your life down for a friend. In death, you can still show your love for your fellow man by giving them a chance for life .

My roots are Southern (Go VOLS!!)and Top 40 tunes are my favorite. (The only time I watched CMT is when the music awards were on.) I’ve enjoyed watching these artists, that I love, in Nashville, on Gone Country. I actually bought the Big ‘N Rich cd with the song Save a Horse Ride a Cowboy after the fantastic choreographed dance by Cheryl and Drew Lachey that they performed on Dancing With the Stars. I love the upbeat country songs the most. (I love all music with great beats actually.) Recently, I have watched some of the CMT videos and have caught Bill Engval (whom I also love) video show. I have a become a huge fan of John Rich now. His show grabbed me (and my heartstrings) on the first episode. I wish each show lasted at least an hour!! =)
Peggy says:
I gotta say, I never really got into, shall we say “reality” TV but I’m enjoying this show and the main reason, I must admit, is that I think John Rich is hot. I love his smile and he seems to me to be down to earth, not stuck on himself at all. I’d love to meet him and may just have to make a trip to Nashville (which I’ve wanted to do for quite a while now) to meet him. Anyway, I will say I hope Maureen is the one who ends up in the studio with him. I’m getting a kick out of watching her. Just by being on the show, in my eyes, she’s getting rid of the Marcia image. Good Luck Maureen
Cheryl Anne says:
My son Jamey was one of the children at the hospital when the Gone Country crew was there. He’s the boy who said that Old MacDonald had a dinosaur. Dee Snider made that day the brightest point of Jamey’s stay at Vanderbilt. Dee spent a solid half hour or more face to face with him having a great conversation about music and life and giving to others. In the midst of the most difficult and painful time in Jamey’s young life, who would have thought that Dee Snider would show up and be his angel? The kiss on the cheek from Mo didn’t hurt either! Please keep Jamey in your prayers as he continues to battle Crohn’s disease. And God bless Dee and Mo and the rest of the gang. We are praying for you Bobby Brown. You can be the man you want to be. Give it all to God. We believe in you!
Angie says:
Mr. Rich, I just want to say you have done an excellent job in picking your guest. I think they all have something to offer the country music industry. I feel that to be a country music singer all you have to do is live your life to the fullest and just write about what you know from that experiance. The show about the childrens hospital touched my heart, anyone who could set through that and wasn’t touched, in my oppenion, should ask the Good Lord above to make them humble because you never know when cancer might touch their lives. Just want to say I think they all deserve the chance to prove themselves worthy. Thank you for listening. May God bless you all.
daleymtn says:
My whole family enjoys your show, John Rich. However I find that that Julio Jr. is lazy , he may be able to sing and is very nice, but yet when it comes to work (which you say is part of country music ) where is he,sleeping on the couch or driving around cars. We all know that Bobby Brown has a drinking problem , but I think he would admit to that , would Julio? I would also like to say that I think this is the best re-hab type setting that you could have ever put Bobby Brown in, it seems to be working well. He seems to have a great heart and hopefully with the help of his friends will heal. Keep up the great work. I think Dee will win the show , he is the best overall, in everything, his attitude for a rocker of my time is just well down to earth, not rude.

Unbelievable!!! I loved this episode. I have seen the first ones like 3 times each. I thought this one was really heart warming. I was laying in bed with big alligator tears. I have one daughter and 5 step kids and they mean the world to me. We saw Big and Rich when they were first starting out at Billy Bobs and loved them then. Now, I have a whole new respect for John. Rock on babe!! Try to make it back to see us in Fort Worth!!!
Lyle Farmer says:
It’s good to see someone trying to find something of value in “Gone Country”. However singer’s with no roots in Country Music or any knowledge of Country Music’s history are responsible for the sorry state of Country Music Radio. To be a real Country Singer you should take the example of what Emmylou Harris said about her introduction to Country Music by Gram Parsons, “I stumbled into Gram Parsons life…to short years before that life would end at the age of 26. But you don’t wind up in Gram’s corner without going through some radical changes if your on life has been relatively uneventful. In My case, I was put on a Greyhound bus with “Gram Parsons” emblazoned across the side and the initials “GP”glittering the front, driven by an ex-marine affectionately called Leadfoot Lance, and surrounded by various musicians and fugitives from love and law and order. Then calling ourselves the Fallen Angels…we sat out to play country music and some rock & roll in the better honky tonks of the nation (some didn’t know they were honky tonks till Gram brought it to their attention). That was my apprenticeship into the music of Gram Parsons, The Louvin Brothers, Buck Owens, Webb Pierce, Charlie Pride, and Merle H. not to mention Chuck Berry – swam through my ears like one of those learn-while-you-sleep recordings….Driving through the prairies on the way to Amarillo, Kyle the bass player expressed his dislike for those flatlands because there was no place to hide. I agreed with him at the time. But sometimes I feel like I swallowed a piece of Oklahoma – and a big ol’ moon comes rising up out of my throat and right on out of the top of my head and floats away like some half-remembered melody…”
I could hardly believe it when I read a quote from a country radio station program director say that “Emmylou is to country”, or when I read of a reporter asking a succesfull young country songstress, “What she thought of the music of the Carter Family” and she simply said “Who are they?”
A real Country music lover from Los Angeles.

Dont think they artists have much of a prayer going country, well maybe Wilson. Anyway keep the show going it show be on with new episiodes more often. Oh Yea Mr. Rich Please can I have your Bear Pole it would go so nice in my house. LOL

I love the show but I think it should have been hour long episodes. It seems like we aren’t getting to see the whole story because the show is so short. And I am totally over bobby brown. Was it in his contract to get the most air time? It will be a sad day in country music if bobby brown wins!!!! I think diana should win . . . she doesnt need any schooling on being a country girl because she is a country girl.

I look forward to Friday nights when Gone Country aires
a new episode. Dee Snider is an overall good guy and always has something positive to say about the other cast members. Carney has such a good philosophy about life and a beautiful smile. Diana needs to cover her chest up
more often…is she trying to win the competition by showing it off? Hopefully Bobby can shake the drinking and sleep walking problems…I actually think he has sleep apnea. Sisco is a quiet, sweet guy, making his own bed….I’ve acquired more respect for him…he speaks intelligently. Julio needs to help more and play less.
It will be interesting if “Mo” and Bobby get it on….

Just got done watching and my eyes are swollen from crying! Very well done to everyone on Gone Country. And Yes, miracles do happen! Praise God!

This was by far the best episode. I think we saw the true characters of these individuals as is always the case when people are put in the hardest situations. I can’t wait to hear what songs they come up with. I’d just like to add that the kids were the real stars of this episode.
Christina says:
This was an enjoyable episode but I’m really not liking the focus of Bobby Brown and to a lesser extent, Maureen. The time should be more equally distributed amongst the cast. I want to see all of the contestants working on their songs as well. I’m watching for Diana and was quite disappointed to not see her much at all in this episode.
jrae says:
I have been watching since the beginning and have gone back and forth re: how I felt about each one except for Carnie and Sisco have liked them consistently. My extended family were farmers and ranchers in Colorado and Wyoming. We were taught being “country” meant trying to lift people up rather than knock them down, and being a person who reached out to those who needed help. My understanding of Big and Rich is that they supported Gretchen Wilson by believing in her and look at what a strong giving women she is. This episode I have seen that lifting people up and was really touched. I took exception to Dee Snider’s comment in the first episode about being the first of his peers to go country. Robert Plant and Led Zepplin paved the way for all those metal bands, has Dee heard him sing with Allison Krause? I have more empathy for Bobby Brown now, I hope he gets the support he needs to quit drinking and be the Man he wants to be. Good luck to all of them. And God Bless John Rich for being such a caring person.

Gone Country has to be the best show I’ve seen on TV in a long time! It is so chuck full of everything. The diversity in the characters are hilarious!
I love it, love it, love it. Great job!
Max says:
Carola Bella, get over it. If Diana’s got a chest to show off she should. “If you’ve got it, flaunt it.” She’s pretty damn hot.
Cisley says:
I agree with some of the posts, this was the best episode since the first one. I really enjoyed the car wash and the fact that the $$$ was going to charity was great but the icing on the cake was the celebs going to the hospital and spending time with the children.
I would also like to see more of an equal distribution in the cast, versus so much on a few.
And STILL waiting for a Concert DVD to be released. Is anyone listening???
Stephanie says:
So I just watched some of the extras and I laughed so hard. Did anyone see the one entitled “are these things on?” - that is hilarious!!!! They should have shown that on the show. Everything they show of diana, she is all primm and proper, its great to see her being a real person!! Bet she gave Dee a run for his money during the hick chick contest, wish they would have shown more of that!

I’m angry that my boy sisqo is not getting the air time he needs. People need to know what he is capable of. Trust me when you here is singing it makes you want to cry. This guy has talent…….. just give him a chance.
Kimberly Dawn says:
I think it’s awesome that you are letting the world know that there is more to the country lifestyle than wearing cowboy boots and spittin’ bacco. Country men and women are about being proud of who you are, where you come from and givng a d— about your fellow man be they redneck, good ole boy or yanks. We are all a little bit country I don’t care where you call home because country is American proud and love strong even to those who don’t understand the yeehaw way of life. I think this is an experience that the artist and everyone they touch will never forget and they will be better people. Once country touches you, really touches you priorities seem to just fall in place. God, Country, Family, and Friends…and everyone needs to remember to love others as you want to be loved and that God don’t make junk!!!!! Keep touching hearts and lives, we love you in the HEART OF DIXIE.
jeremy says:
I like this show Gone Country and like watching everybody in the show. I hope they all do well. I think that as a fan such as me could help them all get better as individuals in country music. I think each one must learn that country music is not just about country life and heartache and pain, but is about being able to dance to the song also. I would buy their music only if they sound good, but I will give them a chance. I think they will all rock the house when they ready get going. I would like to hear them all sing in concert. John, I can’t wait to see all them on tour and I want front row seats. good luck gone country cast.

I grew up in a small town with a population of about 300, so I relate to everything about country music. Watching this show, it just amazes me the casts’ ignorance of true country living. I don’t think that these contestants will ever be true country artists no matter how much they want to be, or how good they are, because even though you’ve showed them a little of the country side, I think you truly need to live it in order to relate to the fans.

Flying across several time zones all the way from Spain to land in Nashville would exhaust anybody & the rest of the cast didn’t have to travel as far as Julio did…
Leah says:
I don’t get why anybody would object to the clothes Diana wears. She dresses like a trendy 20 year old. She’s in great shape and very pretty. Why should she have to wear potato sacks or a mumu?
I totally disagree that the cast is ignorant about “country living.” People have to remember that weeks worth of footage is being edited down into seven short episodes. And as far as Diana goes, the girl was born in Alabama, grew up in Snellville, Georgia and is now living just outside of Nashville in a rural setting. She also sang at the Grand Ole Opry at age 12 and was mentored as a young girl singer by none other than Dolly Parton. The show doesn’t tell you that though because it doesn’t fit their purpose. Make no mistake, Diana is just as “country” as any other country singer.

This program is wonderful. I wasn’t sure about at first but I watch it alot. I appreciate that it is on more than once in case I can’t watch on Friday. The experiences the team has gone through and will go through I am sure, has made each one a winner already even without the singing contract. Thanks for a great show!
stephen out of arizona says:
to the person that thinks the show sucks and is stupid,
John rich has to know how far the cast is willing to go
to make it as a country star.
He has to know that each conestant has to has the
willingness to commit. Good job Mr rich
kim southwick says:
yeah now i love and am rooting for bobby brown… cool show

Kami says:
I am inspired and deeply touched by this show. To often, celebrities are depicted as shallow, immoral, materialistic people. This show demonstrates the genuine, compassionate individuals most stars really are. The honesty that Bobby Brown is sharing with the world is a testament that we all have weaknesses and strengths but through the power of friendship and love, we can all aspire to become better people. Let us all strive at becoming a more understanding and accepting world. Getting back to the basics and what really counts in life, is what country music is all about and helps us to put our lives in perspective. On this show, everyone’s a winner including the viewers!
louise says:

Chefdan75 says:
Mr. Rich, I begin with Mr. Rich out of respect and I have not been given permission to use your first name. I enjoy the music of Big & Rich. I also enjoy the new show Gone Country. No matter what Dee snider thought about your reation to him not liking country that you were caught off guard. I think it was best summed up in your reaction “are you crazy”.
The show also shows that you are serious about country music and that group will know what it is like to be a country star. I was also impressed by the way you knew everyone and what they had accomplished and that you listened to what they all sang. Very impressive.
The show and this espisode gives everyone watching what it means to be a country star and country stars do behind the sences that is not put out for the whole world see. Keep up the good work and again I love the show.

LOVE THE SHOW-LOVE THE CAST!!! Keep this show on when it is over with the winner!! WE WANT MORE!!!! LOVE IT!!!!!!!!
Me Again says:
Who new there was more to Dee Snyder than bushy blonde hair and blue eye shadow. Dee, I love your commentary excerpts. You are a great guy with a lot of insight and understanding. If you didn’t say the F-word so much, you’d be darn near perfect.
Gina Davis says:
My oh My I would rather ride John than a horse any day!! LOL That man is what bringing sexy back means!! And I use to think Tim Mcgraw was the man geez not anymore the looks John can give are so hot!! OK enough aleady of that I like the show feel sorry for alot of them I am hoping this helps them turn there lifes around for the better!! Why do I feel sorry for them well some of them have messed up really bad and still living in the past or the past is still holding onto them!! So maybe a show like Gone Country can help them move towards the future!! Many smiles to all..
stephanie says:
I love the show. This episode was great.I’m from NYC and I went country a long time ago.Country music touches a part of your soul, compared to the other music that is out their it is hands down the best, and cowboys are sexy as hell!!!! Thank you John Rich for creating a great show.
Mrs. Duncan says:
I love this show and I think that this episode was touching. It was just so sad to think of these poor kids and their family’s. I am so glad country music and others help them. It makes me proud to be a country music fan.
Nicole says:
This episode was my favorite one. What a rewarding day for the cast working at a car wash for a great cause and then actually visiting at the children’s hospital with the families and children. I am sure it is a day Diana Degarmo, Carnie Wilson, Bobby Brown, Maureen McCormick, Bobby Brown, Sisco, and Dee Snider will remember forever.
HI says:
Honesty, that’s what country music is all about, and this cast is giving it to us. Thanks for baring your souls!
Crystal Lowman says:
I love Gone Country! I grew up listening to some of the singers and it’s fun for me to watch their personalities.I am a huge Big and Rich fan and this has been a blast for my family and myself to watch.
Tania says:
A very powerful episode.
The interaction that the entire cast had with those children was a great insight to the type of people they are deep down inside.
Everybody has faults and no one is perfect but I believe the value of a person is how they impact the lives of the people around them.
It is amazing how half an hour with the artists brightened up those kids. Even if it was just for a day, they are going through so much and its wonderful to see them smile.
Keep up the good work and God Bless.
patty says:
It’s great the cast is learning Country Family ways & values, they can take all this into their own lives..
My hope is on Bobby,he is a Great Guy but needs to STOP being so hard on himself. Bobby needs to realize how Great his life, healthy kids and Talented..Get rid of his bad habits, think positive and put your talent to work…
Fourhorses says:
Love the show. I would watch infomercials if John Rich was in them…LOL. I don’t yet have a favorite on the show. They are all good. Will someone PLEASE make a strong pot of coffee each morning for Dee ? I know how he feels, I need my coffee too !!!
Love Ya’ll
Displaced Southern Gal says:
I am curious about something and don’t want to upset any particular artist’s fans. I am rooting for them all, but I have to ask about Diane - what a beautiful, talented young lady with a huge future in country music! I just wonder why she was selected - her background is country music and she went pop/R & B for Idol, her album, etc. So she’s not really crossing over but returning to country. Oh, well…guess the producers have a good reason! I was just curious, but you know what they say about curiosity!! Ha!
BTW - a trivia question! Before Manuel, et. al, became well known, does anyone remember the famous designer who did the costumes for Porter Wagner, Dolly, etc.?
mrsflash49 says:
I am not a fan at all of reality shows, but when I saw the preview ads to “Gone Country”, I knew it was a show I couldn’t wait to watch..ya, i am a country gal born and bred..raised on country music!! I know what it is to get down and dirty in the country way of living; and I don’t think it matters if you live in the North, South, East or West, country is country..the only difference might be in how you prepare your meals and what you are going to be eating at them..I’ve done the farm chores, helped my neighbors and just plain lived it my whole life..
I love this show!! I have watched the episodes several times and although episode three was a bit disappointing,
episode four surely made up for it..everyone of the cast did an amazing job washing cars and collecting donations for the children’s hospital..and once they were at that hospital, all of them, including the 2 bad boys on the show, gave those children an unselfish part of themselves that we might not have seen otherwise..you could see the thrill on the children’s faces..I know my eyes weren’t dry when I watched it..I have 2 grown children who I thank God for everyday and if anything happened to one of them, I don’t know how I would manage to go on..it was too much to see a niece and nephew die too early in life from terrible illnesses..I am not a big Bobby Brown fan, but I saw a side of him on this episode that changed my thoughts about that big time..how he comforted that mother with the dying child and spent his time with that little girl; although it was very emotional for him; I think it shed new light on his own life and am sure helped the family and the child
immensely…and I was so thankful to hear that the little girl pulled through and got to go home..BB take some time out and think of your own kids as you were doing on this show and get that drinking under control..parents’ action affect their offspring..do you want to see your own kids grow up and waste their lifes going down the same path, being drunk and acting like that..and if you can’t do it for them, please do it for yourself..only then will you become the man you really want to be..
Everyone of the cast hit a home run on this episode and I wish each and everyone of them good luck..I commend the country music genre for their efforts in giving such a big
helping hand to children; they are our country’s future…
To Ann above, yes this is Barbara Mandrell’s former home that the casts are staying at..It now belongs to a couple of music execs and within the past month, an investment group climbed aboard to subdivide the property..the home supposedly is going to be sold off separately..It is so beautiful..I always wanted a log cabin and it would be a dream to be able to stay at this one for a few days..nothing I could even come close to affording..either staying in or owning..
John, you are doing such a GREAT job hosting this show!!!I’m still old enough to be your mother, but I still think you are one HOTTTT looking cowboy!!
Again, I think this show should be an hour long..30 minutes is just not long enough to fit everything in..also I think this show should be an ongoing one and it doesn’t matter if it’s with celebs or unknown common people like me, I’d watch it!! CMT keep the show going for more seasons…I disagree with the guy above; it has a great concept!!
I’m not really rooting for anyone particular at this point. I’m waiting until we get to hear them sing..So GOOD
LUCK to all!!
Can’t wait for Friday again!! GONE COUNTRY EVERYONE..HAVE A GREAT DAY!!
Susie says:
Friday nights show is my favorite so far. Watching the cast brighten the day for those very special children, even if for a moment was very moving. God bless everyone and thank you John Rich for sharing how important it is to volunteer and help others! Truly inspirational.
Hick-Chick from NY says:
I took me a few days to comment about this very powerful episode because it hits close to home. I cannot tell you how much Music Therapy means to the well being and mind set of children and even adults in their fight over adversity. Animal Therapy is also available where dog, cat, birds, etc a brought to the hospital as a therapeutic aid. Even Don Imus, a NYC shock jock, has a ranch that is dedicated to children with cancer and blood disorders and treats them no different than a healthy child. All these kids want is to be treated as normal. If you have a chance to volunteer or donate to any of these wonderful programs or charities, please do so because it will be a very rewarding experience. I’m not a child but Music Therapy, from one of the “Gone Country” contestants, has kept me alive for over a year.
I just hope that Bobby has a real epiphany and is true to his word that he wants to be a different man. It has not happen yet but I still have hope. I’m quite sure that everyone but Julio and Diana has children and that is why the main focus was on them. I just wish that Julio and Diana had more air time. We see just a few seconds of Julio with the little girl and a few second of Diana praying in the hot tub. I’m sure they were equally devastated by the day and I would of like to see more of there sensitive side.
Elizabeth says:
I almost started to cry when I saw Bobby Brown crying. I think he is going to change his ways.
Sheila says:
It was great to see all of the hard work Diana Degarmo, Maureen McCormick, Bobby Brown, Carnie Wilson, Dee Snider, Sisco, and Julio Iglesias, Jr did washing cars to raise money for the children’s hospital. I am sure the rewards of this day they will remember forever.
sheila williams says:
I just watched your show today and you wouldnt beleive the release it gave me. I am a mom of a very beautiful little girl named Faith Patricia. When we were in the delivery room for an emergency c-section we were told that she probably wouldnt make it out of delivery. We didnt even have a name picked out for her. After several hours of hard delivery , she made it. She was on life support, but she made it out of delivery. Here we go a roller coaster ride we never expected. After 3 days of being pretty much unstable and weak from blood loss and complications I snuck out of my room to go and see my baby girl they wouldnt let me see. I passed out in the hall b4 I even got there. Finally day 4 my husband wheeled me down to nicu (neonatal itensive care unit)I was not pepared for what I was about to see.My body just shut down I was completely numb. My baby girl whom Id waited 4 4ever had so many tubes and IVs in her little tiny body. She was so blowed up from fluid she didnt even look alive. I knew I was in for a ride. I prayed over my babies bed and told her I was not going home without her. Sad thing is I had 2 boys at home 1yr and 11yrs old. Also we didnt have the money for a hotel. Thats when I found out about the Ronald Mcdonald House. It was right in the parking lot practically of the hospital. What a bunch of ANGELS. I got to stay near my daughter and that was sooo wonderful. Even though we lost everything we had in the process (car truck bank account etc..)we never gave up Faith Hope and Love for our little girl. And thanks to the RMH we never had to leave her. After 3 monts we are finally home and so happy. We are all together again and we have a new addition. She went from life support to livin life. What a heartache, joy, happy, sad, heartwrenchin test God had for us. All beacause the day I found out I was pregnant I prayed for patience. DONT PRAY FOR PATIENCE…Anyway if you get a chance to do something so wonderful like that again try the Ronald Mcdonald House. They (meaning the parents staying there)are so inneed of a smile. Thank You for helping me finally cry. Faith Noah and Charlies mom..
PS Could u tell Bill Egvall I need a mobile home Disaster makeover..lol
Max says:
Bobby Brown hasn’t changed his ways. After filming was done he got arrested on suspicion of cocaine possession.
Michele Koblitz says:
Well, first off, I think that you could put a pile of “poo” in front of John Rich and he could make something beautiful out of it…because he has wisdom, heart, talent, and idk…annointing from God, honestly. I wish I could be on that show…dang, but I’m not famous…just a wife and mom of 4 from NC whose clock is ticking. It seems to me that this show is helping these people overcome some serious heart issues, let alone helping them to “go country”. I love it and love you John Rich…you are amazing!
Faye Barnes says:
I’ve got to say that I took a peak at “Gone Country” out of curiosity and I have found that I return to watch the new episode because I am seeing a side of sll the participants that is so revealing and enlightening. I am sure they are (at least hopefully) learning and growing and finding if not a love of country (music and lifestyle) at least a respect for it and of course that opens them–us all–to being open to new things, lifestyles and beliefs. I totally am enjoying their hourney and hope that they are. I have a new respect for Carnie Wilson! What a wonderful lady. Maureen is great! Bobby is so talented I hope he can elude his demons. And Dee Snider is as always, fabulous! Julio and Sisco I hope you will step up more and be more of a leading force. Best of luck to all but I hope Carnie is our winner and Dee finds that he really doesn’t hate Country!!!!!!!!
Luis says:
I read a lot of positive things and negative also, I started to listen to country when I was in the service. I am a country boy from Puerto Rico, and the feeling of watching all this city people trying to be country makes me feel proud of the heritage. Country people makes the mayority of soldiers in active duty. And I feel proud to see a Bobby Brown or Dee or the rest to go thru the things I went thru as a kid. Julio que deje la vagueria and stop acting as the good loking guy he needs to earn his respect in there like the rest. GOD BLESS USA 101 airborne.
NewMuzikMafiaFan says:
I was told about this show from a friend, and decided to give it a try. After the first episode I was hooked. More of a Rocker at heart, I now find myself listening to ( and enjoying ) Country music. And through this, I am becoming a big fan of the whole MuzikMafia scene.
But after this last show, I was deeply touched. Watching the cast with the children at the hospital really pulled on my heart strings.
Great Show! Cant wait to hear the music that this bunch comes up with.
Sgt.Steve says:
I absolutely love this show, and the latest respone to the St.Judes hospital. It really tugs at the heart strings! I was injured in Iraq and was wondering if you would consider taking some hopefulls to Walter Reed where i spent alot of time. Just a thought. You rock!!
August says:
John, Thanx for all that you, your msic team, and the Muzik Mafia do for the world of music.
This project with “Gone Country” is wonderful and fun. But it at least puts other genre of music folks in touch with the Country world as well as the rest of the world and exposes them to the wonderful world of reality.
Keep up the great work.
Respectfully,
August
Tim says:
Truely inspirational. As a hard-core B&R fan one the most satisfying aspects of Gone Country is exposing John Rich for the true genius and just good guy that he is. I’ve been ridiculed before by many of my dear but clueless friends and family about my intense interest in B&R music. Even the B&R doubters that I know are getting into show and saying ” John Rich does have something”. Keep up the great work John and CMT. Go Dee. You the man! Hope your feeling better Big Kenny.
Tammy says:

diane says:
Why doesn’t Maureen get it over with and jump in the sack with Bobby..She is CONSTANTLY all over him..Now THAT would be a country song..LOL
Tricia says:
Although I was a little unsure of the show at first, I have to admit that I can’t wait until the next episode is shown! I am a fan of Big and Rich, but hadn’t seen anything interviews with either star. I am completely blown away by the intensity that comes from John’s eyes when he speaks to the cast members and the cameras. I am impressed with how he is introducing the aspects of country life to the cast. The Children’s Hospital episode was especially dear to my heart. I am an oncology nurse and I see how much people impact each other. It truly is a ripple effect. Also, I have a child who was born prematurely and I’ve had to sit in the waiting room for two hours to be allowed to see your child for 15 minutes. I can’t stress enough how much I appreciate that the cast members are not spending their camera time bashing each other. I absolutely cannot stand that about other “reality” shows and do not watch them. Keep up the good work!!
Diana says:
I love this show but agree the episodes would be better if they were an hour long like the first show. Not enough gets through in half an hour and all the cast don’t get equal air time. I think Diana or Carnie are the best bet for country. Mo might be able to carry it off, havent heard her sing. Carnie gets stressed awfully easy so not sure its for her either. I would like to hear more of them singing.
Jackie says:
That is so touching… Just proves how one person can make a difference….. ^5 Bobby…. Makes ya wanna give your own kids a big hug
Theresa says:
only good one on this show is john rich
Richard says:
My only complaint is the lack of airtime givin to some of the cast members, I mean it seems like it has turned into the Bobby Brown show.
Paula says:
John you’ve done an excellent job on this show! I hope that you get a chance to drop in on your blog to read the comments we leave for you. I’m also looking for an answer to the best place to send a video tape to you.I’m not pitching anything I’ve already tried getting it to you through your Fan Club and your Manager without response. Can you help?

it is not up to us to say what a show contestant does in

I really love the show…I just wish it was an hour instead of 30 minutes. I am just really starting to enjoy Gone Country when it ends!
Skot says:
This show is as stupid as John Rich
jodi says:
John Rich seems like an excellant business man as well as a brilliant artist. What an opporunity! Nothing but success for the winner with John behind it. I know this has nothing to do with it, but man….is John Rich hot or what!!!!!!!!!
Skot says:
John Rich is a homophobic, untalented waste of cmt airtime.
Heather says:
I love this show. The episode where you all went to the hosp. really hit home to me. thank you for showing the world that there are children & adults that have these health issues. BOBBY BROWN you rock it i am praying that you can go all the way!!!!!
Len says:
I can relate and i am sure there are others out there that can as well. As a father of a sick child (3 years old) it does somthing to you and to see him in the hospital going through treatment just kills me!! It just breaks my heart to know that my child has an illness that will be with him all his life and could kill him if undetected!! That episode with all of them in the hospital brought tears to my eyes. I have been there with my boy in the hosptal, i have see other childeren on respirators and wheelchairs that really breaks my heart. I am a truck driver and on the road all the time and dont get to see my boys all that often and seeing all that unfold in that episode reminded me how badly i miss my boys.
Christy R says:
I really love the show. I was born and raised East Texas Country. I loved the show where everyone went to Gretchens but would like for the show to be an hour so we could actually see what was going on… This episode was very moving there is nothing that will break your heart and make you real like seeing sick helpless children.. You wonder how that can happen? Keep up the good work I hope if not this show but future shows you will consider an hour episode. Love to Big & Rich!!!
Best of Luck to All!!!
Stephanie says:
I love this show, I have it on a weekly timer. I am a little bit sick of Moe and all her crying, I saw her a little bit on Celebrity Fit Club and she did the same thing. This show is hillarious and such a nice change. Way to go JR on this show!!!!

I AM A BIG FAN OF JOHN RICH. HE IS DEFINTELY AN ICON IN THE MUSIC WORLD. HIS NEW SHOW IS GREAT, OF COURSE HE IS HOT AND THINK HE HAS ANOTHER HOTTIE WHOM COULD BRING ALT TO COUNTRY MUSIC AND THAT IS……….JULIO.
THANK YOU JOHN FOR A GREAT SHOW AND BEING THE PERSOM YOU ARE
GOD BLESS
ashley w says:
i love sisqo. im really pulling for him and he honestly is the only reason why i watch the show. i do have one question though. when did the country music genra start letting in wife beaters and cocane addics? we all know bobby beat whitney and got her hookd on cocane. thats something that needs to be thought about so u really want that image associated with country music? i will always be a country music fan i love it. as far as music goes its counrty then r&b then rock then whatever else. sisqo has done more than just thong song. a lot of what he has done could be a country song with a little tweeking.
karen says:
I love the show. Everyone is so funny. The show at Vanderbilt really hit home for me. I cried, but at the same time, felt good about what they done for the kid’s. I have a daughter who had heart surgery in at Vanderbilt in 2002. The hospital and staff is wonderful. I will never forget it. It was my first time experiencing anything like that. Kid’s are so special. John Rich your show is great. Let me hear a hell yea! I think all the cast has a good shot of going country.
D. Woodard says:
Congratulations you have a hit. I think your show is hilarius. I like everyone you chose to be on show. I am looking forward to seeing the winner.
You think you know John Rich? HA! says:
First and foremost, I live in Nashville and date someone who has worked exclusively with John Rich and other country music stars on a daily basis. Most of them are genuine people and love giving back to their communities.
But don’t be fooled by John Rich. He is the cockiest, most ignorant person I have ever come across in my life. Don’t let his “I’m a normal guy” attitude get the best of you, this guy drives a Bentley and spits on people in the service industry. You want to talk about class and helping out other musicians? Why don’t you ask him what happens when someone accidently knocks his hat off of his head? Oh well he just punches them in the face. I know what you’re thinking, this person must have had just one bad experience with this man. Ha, you ask anyone who has to deal with this man on a regular basis who works in the Nashville nightlife industry and they will all tell you the same thing in great detail.
This guy doesn’t care about helping people, its all an image. In fact he probably would not even help a friend in need on the street, he would turn and walk the other way, and you would be lucky if he didn’t spit on you first (literally, I have seen him do it)
I have never, in my entire life, met a more uncaring, selfish, disgusting person. And I pity the poor people that he has convinced otherwise, if you only knew.
Mary Ann says:
I just wanted to say that I absolutely love this show. Country music has been a huge part of my life since the day I was born, and although I love music in general, I always have preferred my country roots. I hope to see the whole cast go far and see Dee Snyder take back his comment about hating country music. I would also like to see Bobby Brown get more out of this show than just a daily hangover.
As for the person that made the comments about John Rich being a disgusting, uncaring, selfish person, I am sure you are right to a degree. Any big name star is going to be a bit like that, but that doesn’t mean he is totally a bad person and image is everything. Personally, I could care less what kind of person he is because I have no intentions of meeting him, but he does what people want and that is entertain.

I love this show. It really hit me in the heart to see a guy like bobby brown hugging that woman, comforting her, and even crying. To see all those kids it really makes me see how lucky i am to be healthy at home with my family. Great Job J.R.!

To Mr. ” You think you know Jon Rich ….”
Hey Mr. Courageous do you have a name or do you just slam people you are jealous of and then weasel in your hole somewhere. Try to put your energies in more positive endeavors.

i like what they are doing. i think they should toughen up at doing things at the ranch. but they cando better
Doug Texas says:
John,
Hopefully this episode gave Mr. Brown a reality check, and he will focus his attention toward his talent rather than his self-indulgence. Keep up the great work.
P.S. What is your drink of choice?
Nicci says:
i just finised watching the episode where they all go to the childrens hostpital. It really hit hard because yesterday i got word that a family member of mine was going to be put on a reperator for a week and given one week to try and live on him own or they are going to send him to hospice to basically die. So this show really made me realize that the family member I have who is suuffering from cancer and is in his late 70s and lived a great life, has been blessed with a long great life. I realized i should be thankful for given 20 years to know him. These poor kids are only given 5 years if they are lucky to live. It really hit home and i had a really hard time not crying
Amanda says:
Hey John I just wanted to say I love your show!!! I love all styles of music but country is number one in my heart and I really enjoy seeing non country artist learning the meaning of country music and country living. This episode really touched my heart. I think its awsome when famous people use their fame to help others, kuddos to you and your cast members!!!! Keep up the good work!!!
God Bless and good luck to you and yours!!!
