Gone Country: Image Is Everything
The one place where I really kinda had an issue with the producers of Gone Country was when they were wanting to take these artists and slap cowboy hats on them and put the rhinestones on them and all this. And I'm going, "Well, if they want to do that, then they should be allowed to do that, but these people have their images already. Otherwise, they wouldn't be multi-platinum artists." So, to me, that's one way people who produce TV shows really screw up what's going on here in Nashville. I mean, I've seen some of the unbelievable stuff that really just infuriates me, honestly, because it makes us look like a bunch of hicks and ding-dongs. Now, maybe we are a bunch of hicks, but we're not stupid. We're country folks, but we know what's going on. We're just as cool as anybody else. We know how to do it. I think this stereotypical nonsense that sometimes gets thrown at you is detrimental to the progress of country music, and I didn't want to be a part of that at all.
So when it came time for the cast members to find some clothing to complement their personalities, we took them to Manuel, the tailor on Music Row who's made clothing for Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley and many others. As it turned out, Manuel didn't really get to work with them because we just stormed his store, but was doing all he could to help. Of course, he spent more time with the ladies ... because he's Manuel. Manuel likes the ladies, so Diana DeGarmo ended up with a really, really cool piece that she ended up wearing. It looked great on her, and I think Maureen McCormick ended up with something really cool, too. I think all the ladies wound up with something to wear. As for the guys, I can't recall exactly who ended up with what, but Sisqo ended up with a cool piece. But its one of those things where you have to say, "If what's in Manuel's store is cool for you, wear it. And if it ain't, don't." I was really going out of my way to make sure they understood that I wasn't sitting there looking at them and saying, "Put on some country clothes or you're not going to win this show. I didn't want them feeling that way. Image is one thing, but it's about their music more then about what kind of clothes they're going to wear.
KathyH says:
Just watched the show for the first time and totally hooked! I’am not a big fur fan but omg can John pull it off! Would love to see him without the hat! Think Diana is going to win she has a great voice.
KellieGirl says:
KathyH, not sure you would like to see him without the hat. No offense to JR but he knows he looks best in a hat. That’s why folks rarely ever see him without one. I did. I was a newspaper photog on the front at Daytona when he and Big K performed the National Anthem sans hat (like a respectable and proud American - as was Kenny!) Hope they can make it to hometown Talladega this year! I got room in my yard for the bus boys!
Can’t wait to see what Manuel’s store coughs up for our cast! Some of the finest are dressed from his shelves and imagination. But just because they can doesn’t mean they should don the rhinestones, sequins and pearls. Very few, including Porter Waggoner and our own JR, can pull that look off.
CowgirlXena says:
Great blog.
LINDA S BURNS says:
LOVE TO SEE A PHOTOS OF JOHN RICH WITH OUT A HAT
Belinda J. says:
I just had to leave a comment to John and say that I know that you have a job on and in your hands.
I also would like to remind him and all others that if you don’t think that “Rockers” can’t do country, you should remember and checkout the song from THE ROLLING STONES, “FAR AWAY EYES”.
It is possible John. Have faith.
P.S. JOHN, ASK GRETCHEN OUT ON A DATE
BA White says:
Hey Belinda- that idea would be great if she wasn’t already seeing someone. Then again JR normally has one hell of a woman on his arm as well.
jennifer kowalski says:
john rich if ya see this me n my girl love your show and your songs thank ya
BrianLee says:
This show is progressing well, but I think, as John has seemed to indicate in this posting, the focus should be a little sharper. Very soon, the music, or lack of it, needs to be front and center. Bobby Brown’s junk can get a show of it’s own, it is probably more lucid than he is. The premise is that they can write a song, with help, that will appeal to the country audience. Lyrics, notes and ideas should be floating around the house. I don’t even know if any of them can play an instrument yet.
But, I am hooked, I will still watch. It is really “reality TV without prejudice”
Jennifer says:
I agree with BrianLee, there should be more music on the show. I was at the taping of the last episode, I know they can all sing. It would just be more interesting to see the whole songwriting process they went through.
Go Sisqo & Dee Snyder. I think they both did the best at the finally!
Kim says:
I’ve been watching the show since it started. First I’m a fan of each and every one of these artists.
I saw the episode where Bobby Brown said that he would not participate in the watermelon seed spitting contest because he found it degrading. I live in the South and I don’t participate in that myself but I will support anyone who want to do it. Has he ever seen a clip of what he acts like when he’s been drinking? How degrading is that. I think that if he would just keep his act together he could possibly blow this thing out of the water.
Everyone that is on the show is talented. For them to step outside their comfort zones takes something that alot of people don’t have…….GUTS!
belinda says:
i ♥♥♥♥♥ this show. its the best thing (besides music vids) cmt has.
Saydie Jayne says:
The producers couldent have picked a better host for the show. John makes it interesting. other than that it’s just a bunch of wash ups trying to find fame again!
Sharon says:
I started watching Gone Country from day one.Awesome Show.Only John Rich could pull off, putting all these celebrites together.I hope we see more seasons of this show.
Mark R. says:
I agree about the clothes thing. Clothes are a reflection of the person and the artist and the artists needs to decide that - maybe with a bit of guidance from a professional stylists but at the end of the day the comfort of their image will be reflected in their comfort on the stage.
Lastly, someone mentioned above regarding music - As I am a big fan of the show and an admire Mr. Rich’s business sense, at some point, we need to really see a show that focuses on the music and these artist doing their thing. For instance Bobby has his personal issues, but man if he sings country with the passion and emotion that boy has inside, he will be phenomenal. Time to see them perform!
Jenny says:
I can’t get enough of this show!!! I love it, and omg is John Rich hott!!! I have seen Big&Rich in concert about 3 times and when he got out of the helicopter carrying a drink and wearing fur, man alive. I think it’s just hysterical. Keep’m coming!!!
jamie griffin jr says:
I love country music, and i love jon rich’s tv show, i thank if you believe in your self you can accomplish anything, keep faith, hope and believe, never let one person tell you it’s impossible baecause everything is possible, I have loved to sing since i was in middle school, but everyone told me to chase other dreams but i didnt listen i love to sing so i kept, hope, afith, and i believed in myself. im 24 know and i have a 2 yearold son and i still sing and play guitar alittle bit but i still need some practice, but two months ago i started writing song’s, and i sent them to paramount records in nashville and they sent me a contract, and they cut my song and recorded it an made me and them a demo so im a step in the door with my dream, and im going to keep trying untill i make it, rascall flatts are my music inspirer’s, and john rich is one of my favorite people to, i wish i could join in on the show with them, or get some help , but i’ll make it untill some one wants to help me, go country yall, i live in the country and bail hay and work with horses to so keep it up gone country folks..
D-Sny-Dog says:
Yea, I am hooked too. I am a true 80’s
music fan, good ole hard rock and now
find myself enjoying country. Friends
can’t believe it. I like all the Twists
(No pun Dee) to this series. A real great
mix up of Artist. My complaint is its only
a 1/2hr. long then I have to wait till next
week for the next episode. Ohh well I guess
if I am “Gone country!” I better get used
to the slower pace of the country life, LOL..
Thanks CMT for the great show and great music!
Barbara Wilkinson says:
Next season they should put all the members of Lonestar on the show and John can teach them how to become as successful as he has become! That would be worth watching!
DD says:
Pft! Too funny Barbara Wilkinson! I must agree on that comment!
DonziDoll says:
Happy Birthday to Julio Jr this coming Monday, February 25th!
inyone says:
Hi there from the great upstate NY, where we do have horses too. I was watching the show where they were taken to the horse ranch and told to go get the horses in the barn. Well, lets face it, if you are afraid of large animals like horses, then use your sense (as some did) to stay away. To (go-round-up) horses is not something that should be given lightly to someone who has never been around these animals. It is just my comment to the show. Otherwise, I love it, I’ve told my friends and family about the show. They all laugh seeing how I am all rock and the likes of that. Go get them.
inyone says:
Well said, “D-Sny-Dog”
diane says:
go diana..poor kid doesn’t get much camera time..seems the dysfunctionals get it all….thats okay girl..concentrate on your song writing and singing and blow the rest out of the water come showtime….
Brenda says:
I just watched the “Image is Everything” episode! I think Bobby Brown is in the spotlight way too much. This is a man that gets drunk & pees everywhere(men like that are a dime a dozen)! I’m not trying to knock Bobby Brown, but I hope everyone else gets more airtime, they’re all in it for the same reason! GONE COUNTRY…..YEE HAW!!!!!
Tere Todd says:
Hit on this program & fell in love with it. My feelings about the song for Julio is the writers need to feed into his romantic side - use something along the line of Freddy Fender - is anyone old enough out there to remember him? Keep this going J.R. - they’ll do you proud. Tere
loretta says:
I really like the show, I would like to see John Rich do one where he has a show for just regular people who is interested in lyric writing, not pros; but just every day people.
pat says:
I think the show is great, John Rich is a real person, I feel that the show would’t be as good with anyone else. can’t wait for next week, so I can see more.
Robin says:
This is one great show and I watch every episode on Friday night, along with the re-runs. John Rich is the coolest man in country music and he looks great with those rhinestone jeans! Really, I think he’s the perfect guy to show non-country performers how to “go country” because he is the picture of what a country singer/songwriter should be. I also think having people with different backgrounds and personalities competing on the show makes it interesting. I’m looking forward to watching a whole lot more of this show.
Peggy says:
I am in love with the show and can’t wait to see what happens at the end. Maybe next time try average joes from different palces and see if they can be country. Give other people a chance to see the wonderful world of country living.
Kim says:
I have been watching every show and I really love it!! I loved heavy metal in high school and really do like Dee Snider..Also loved listening to New Edition, but liked Bobby Brown especially when Don’t Be Cruel came out.. I love what this show says that artists no matter what music they do they can come together…I am 36 now and I love seeing people I grew up listening to their music..Please keep the show going for another season!!!!
A Big&Rich fan too!!!!

SGTMommy says:
Love the show…Love John…Need I say more?
Kathie says:
I love the show, haven’t missed one, but I think it needs to be an hour show, it’s way to short.
Would love to at least hear more singing from the group, so we can judge right along with John who has the best chance of going “country”!

Alexis massey (male) says:
The more I wacth this show, the more obvious who is going to win. People think about it for a moment. They show way too much of bobby brown, so he is already a star, so cross him out of being the winner. Second, Mo is way too soft. She might show a little courage but at the end it won’t help…..she is out!!!!. Julio (the latin LOVER) is not a team player. He is lazy and like things his own way so he is out lol. Next comes Carnie. Carnie is alright but unfortunally she can’t hold the image. You guys heard what John said, “image is everything”. I’m sorry i have nothing against big women but yea. Next is sexy ass talented Diana DiGarmo lol. Yea she can’t be the winner people. One reason is because it would to be to freakin obvious. Second if you notice the cast and the players are always talking about how young she is. She has her whole life to make music so give it to the old people lol. Here comes dee snider next. Dee is great… I think he is going to give a great maybe a fantastic performance but he is tooo old. His prime was in the eighties i’m sorry Dee your great but not the image to sell to young kids now and days. So that leaves SISQO. He is the winner and i’m going to tell ya why in the next blog.
Alexis massey (male) says:
Like I said before, Sisqo is the winner because OF many reasons. First, sisqo is still popular to this day. He is still loved by fans across the globe and nation wide. He is 29 years old so that put him in a place where he is not too old and not too young. Speaking of being not too old and not too young, he is like the middle child and no one ever thinks of the middle child lol. My point is that no one would expect him to win because the air play isn’t even on him which sucks but just wait and see people. Next his image couldn’t be any more perfect. Again he is not too old and young, he dress in style in this day, the kids will love him!!!!!!!!!! Oh yea the most important factor he can sing his asssss offf and personaly way better than Diana. He actually has talent. He did sosngs with mariah carey, prince, stevie wonder this dude has a power ful back ground and this is the wreasons why i think no better yet i know sisqo is the winner.
Ivan says:
Diana won.
She the only one who is currently recording in Nashville.
She was at the Warner Brothers party with john rich a couple months ago.
She has moved to Nashville and bought a house.
CMT Insider did a story about her this week.
she had a major article on this website that was all about her.
She’s young and pretty and has mad singing talent.
She won It is not even a mystery.
Hop says:
Just caught this show for the first time last night on CMT.
This is a GREAT show!
karen says:
Two shows left can we please hear or atleast see someone other than Bobby Brown?
Vicki says:
This show is great entertainment and fun to be a part of each week. I actually am watching reruns and can’t wait for the Friday show. I agree 1/2 hour is too short.
But that’s probably what keeps me coming back. I like the honesty of the people. No matter whether a star or whoever, we are really all the same, people with problems, insecurities, emotional tenderdness, desires to help and a need to make a difference, and it’s great that it can be enahanced through performing. There is a lot of variety of personalities on this show, which make the show very intereting. Will you be choosing unknown artists for your next show? I’m interested but have no professional experience as a singer. I do not play music either. I was born in the midwest, raised on the west coast, but feel my roots are country. Thnx y’all
PS John A Perry, I’m so sorry you are hurting. I will pray for you. Even though people have failed you, God will not. He loves you and wants to heal all your pain and fill you with joy where locusts ( have destroyed. God is able. Trust in HIM through Jesus. It wasn’t God who took your son, it was the way of the earth, that all men ( people ) must die. We just don’t know when. But the free gift of God is that if you believe in Jesus, when you die, that is not all there is. There is life after death. There is HOPE. There is GOD and a future with HIM.

I think Bobby Brown is great. He gets down on himself through the years as a bad guy.But in fact he has a wonderful heart and just does stupid things in the past.
I think all the red necks should give him a break.I think all of us have done things in our life that we regret.Does not mean we are bad people.

This was a great one as well!

Hey pj I didnt say bobby brown wasnt any good but there are six other people on the show as well and well I for one would like to see a little of them.. Im mean ive seen bobby Drunk ive seen Bobby Piss ive seen Bobby cry damn give someone else some camera time.
cindy says:
Wish the episodes lasted at least an hour. It is very interesting to say the least. I dO not know how Dee does it! Staying in a room with BB. At 1st i did not think I would like Dee, because he was arrogant AND THAT THING HE DID OVER COFFEE….RIDICULOUS AND WHAT HE SAID ABOUT CCOUNTRY MUSIC… . I have changed my mind, he’s a very strong person but he should say ” 4 wheeler” and not QUAD…..I hated that phrase…..sorry Dee….Maureen needs to toughen up! GOod grief!!!! She cries at the drop of a hat.I love SISCO, he seems to be well -rounded!!!! CUTE , RESPECTFUL. GO SISCO!!!!!Bobby just needs to quit drinking and get his life back….Carlie is very pretty….has a good voice and is seems very normal….hulio hummmmmmmm he is cute but I get this impression from him: he probably has had any and everything he has ever wanted , gave to him.meaning he has never had to work…for anything….AM I WRONG? i THINK CARLIE HAS A GOOD SHOT..WINNING….THATS MY GUT FEELING ….I WISH DEE WOULD SHOCK US ALL…..AND GO 4 IT.
Hick-Chick from NY says:
Don’t get me wrong, I’m no prude, but what is the purpose of being told that Bobby has a “light saber” and the ability to use it to put out forest fires except for the fact that CMT wants “Gone Country to be like every other TV Reality show . Although Maureen’s and Carnie’s reactions were priceless, the time devoted to this could have been cut in half and the additional minutes could have been used to get a peek at everyone’s song or more line dancing. God Sisqo can move and Diana is not half bad either. “Gone Country”, after commercials only runs about 22 minutes and I just wish CMT did not make some of the cast, with their lack of camera time, look like the poor step children.
amber says:
I like this show alot. gone country rocks and I can’t wait to see what types of duds Manuel has in his store that Dee and the rest of the cast get to wear. I’ll be seeing this episode too and I want to know whose going to win Gone Country? Is it Dee or Maureen or Bobby brown? I just want to know. We’ll see soon enough but this show rocks my socks!
Leah says:
Cindy I think you mean “Carnie.”
Diana almost certainly won. It’s pretty obvious. Not because of the show but because she moved to Nashville and CMT had her on one of there shows today.
Sandy says:
I am hooked on this show. Finally something to laugh about, hope that it can be made to a 1 hour show next time. LOVE LOVE LOVE it Good job CMT
Anne says:
I really felt for Carnie at Manuel’s. She knew going in that it would be hard to find something in her size that would fit and be the kind of look she’d hoped to find. Everyone else was able to at least have a variety of options, even if some were a bit too blingy. In the real world, she’d have had time time to get something altered or made.
I second the wish not to focus on BB quite as much. I know more about his bodily functions and abilities than his music at this point.
Leah says:
Wow, Diana looked great in her dress from Manuel’s. She’s so skinny! It’s no wonder Carnie felt insecure.
Leah says:
Oh and I hope when Diana wins CMT does a reality show just with her. Maybe they can follow her as she adjusts to life in Nashville and is making her cd. maybe John Rich can produce the cd for her.
stephanie says:
First of all I love this show! Now, I thought the outfits with all the Rhinestones were a bit much. Some outfits they had chosen were a bit countryfied, kinda cheesey looking. All things in balance. Too much godiness. To be country you don’t have to dress like a countryfied Elvis. JR you have a manly country look that is HOT!
The fur coat is a little much but you still looked GOOD! I feel the producers missed the boat making this call.
I’m looking forward to the next episode.
Cheryle says:
I have been watching “Go Counry” since day one and have loved it… yep… JR is definitely a country pimp in his furs and hats and sunglasses but it definitely works for me. Now as for the contestants, I give them all credit if they go the mile and dress a little country… Manuels clothing is gorgeous and classy and I think they should be honored to dress in his duds. I wish them all a lot of luck and I hope that after Bobby’s experience at the hospital he’ll get his drinking under control and it is definitely God’s miracle that the little girl rallied back and made it after Sisqo and Bobby saw her…that is a life changing experience and you never know when you just might be God’s angels sent to do his work…. God Bless you all. A Big Fan of all of YOU… you too big JOHN
celdan says:
I started watching this show day one. I too love it and got some other people to watching it. John….LOVE, LOVE, him, always have, since I saw him in the first Lonestar video, (no news). I must say, when I saw him get off that helicopter, he was 10 feet tall and bulletproof, the hat, the shades, and the fur. It just doesn’t get any better. MWAH!
Diana says:
John,
STOP STOP STOP STOP WEARING FUR……WHAT’S UP W/THAT….YOU SAID YOU WERE NOT GOING TO WEAR IT IN CONCERT SO WHY ARE YOU WEARING IT ON TV….STOP STOP……….
penni says:
I have been watching the show from the start. I just love it! It will be sad when it ends. when you watch a show like this you start to relate to the characters and you feel like they’re a part of you. Its a nice change to see that famous people are real people with real feelings and emotions. Whether its sleep walking or a fear of being in front of a large crowd. This is a great cast. As for John Rich I think you’re hot in anything you wear. I hate to see the show end.
Stacey says:
Loved this episode of Gone County. I agree with Leah it would sure be great if CMT did a new reality tv show just with Diana Degarmo as she adjusts to her new life in Nashville and followed her as she records her new CD.
Diana Degarmo is my favorite on the Gone Country show and it would be great if she won.
Tanya says:
This episode felt like a bridge between all the activities that have led up to it and the very serious music part that is about to begin. I find it fitting that they were allowed to put on whatever they wanted - even if that meant nothing - of the country image in this bridge episode.
Sandra D says:
Wow! Well it looks like I have a lot to catch up on. I just returned from a 2.5 year deployment in Japan. I’m a Chief in the Navy. I was able to catch a little bit of one show and loved it. However I would suggest to John if he travels this road again…for direction and guidance for his female contestants…maybe bring in some of the strong powerful Country Women…like Dolly, Tanya, Loretta… It hurts my heart to see Carnie beat herself up so much when she has accomplished so much in her life as Carnie and not a child of the Beach Boys or a third of a girl group. Maybe the female icons of country could pass on their experience and knowledge. Just a comment from the peanut gallery.
Oh and I do have to say…seeing a well put together man…with a strong heart…and a good head on his shoulders…makes me hopeful that there might be one more out there.
Good job John.
Susie says:
HERE’S A MARKETING IDEA FOR CMT AND JOHN RICH. Put all the episodes of Gone Country on DVD with out take’ and extras and sell them to all the fans out there!! From all the comments I’ve read here and on other websites, you’d have another winner. Seriously, think about it!
Keri Ann says:
CMT please release all of the Gone Country songs from the finale on ITunes for:Diana Degarmo, Bobby Brown, Maureen McCormick, Carnie Wilson, Siscqo, Dee Snider and Julio Iglesias, Jr. From what we have seen so far through the songwriting scenes, the songs are going to be great for the finale and definitely need to be released for everyone to have.
A CD with the Gone Country cast would be great also with all of the recording studio versions of the songs that the cast put together for the finale.
Tracy says:
Does anyone know where Dee got that skull and paisely t-shirt? I love it!
Jody K. says:
Love the show and John Rich but I agree with Diana. John please quit with the furs!!! You’re a handsome, sexy man. You don’t need to wear fur, it hurts your image and makes you look short and stout. Animals are dying a brutal death for your vanity. Please reconsider!!
Zach Bradshaw says:
Dear Producers,
I have been watching and trying to keep up with your new show Gone Country. I have really enjoyed this season so far and wanted to congratulate you on it. The reason I right is very simple. I was sitting in my living room about three days ago watching Gone Country and this idea came to me. It would be a great addition and twist to the show if you added an aspiring young artist to your celebrity contestants. I think this would add another level to his competition that would really benefit your show. I am a young artist pursuing my dreams of becomming a full time country music artist. I play the guitar and the bass. I also sing lead vocals in my school band along with singing the lead vocals for my personal band which I have started. I love to sing and play country music with a passion. I also write the songs for my band and love to write. In all humility, I am good at writing songs. If you decide to try my idea I know I would be the best candidate to use for these reasons. I am not afraid, I am passionate about what I do, I am ready to pay the price and I WILL get results. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to read this.
Sincerly an aspiring artist;
Zach Bradshaw
Mona Dee says:
I love this show!!! If anyone can carry off the fur coats it’s John…….He looks amazing….
Karey says:
What a great episode, can’t wait for the finale to see Diana Degarmo, Maureen McCormick, Bobby Brown, Carnie Wilson, Julio Iglesias, Jr, Sisqo, and Dee Snider in the outfits they picked out at Manuel’s.
It would definitely be great to have a DVD of all of the episodes and extra scenes along with new interviews from the cast when the show is officially finished. A CD would be great also to have recording studio versions of all of the songs from the finale.
peggy says:
i only have one question ???
if i may ask this
why is everybody dogging john about wearing fur ….
that is his things…..
seeing is that he orginated from texas ….
is he going to change his mind … lol … NOT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!??!?!
hahaha
Sheila says:
Love the show. Out of all the contestant I think Diana should win. She is great.
manda says:
i just want to say that i am watching the episode where they go to the hospital, and bobby brown really touched my heart!!!!! it is amazing to see someone who has had such bad publicity show the world that he too has a heart!! God Bless You Bobby Brown!!!!!
brenda says:
I love you John. EVERYTHING you wear you look Gr8 in!!!
Faye Barnes says:
Enjoyed another great episode. Got to see What Dee found to wear but I guess my heart was again with Carnie…I’m a “full-figure, rubinesque lady” and as such I’d rather be beaten than be put in the position she was put in. I wish there had been some forethought and she and anyone else who needed a style or color or fabric or SIZE change made then the tailoring could have been done for them.

THIS SHOW IS GREAT VERY ENTERTAINING. I SAW BIG AND RICH WED NIGHT IN RENO IT WAS FANTASTIC. AT THE VERY END JOHN AND COWBOY TROY WERE SMASHING GUITARS AND JR GOT HIT IN THE FACE WITH IT. HE WALKED OFF THE STAGE WITHOUT ANOTHER WORD. LATER MY HUBBY SAID THAT HE SAW BLOOD COMING DOWN HIS FACE. I DIDNT REALIZE HE HAD BEEN HURT. THANK GOD IT HAPPENED IN THE ENCORE. HOPE YOUR OK JOHN, WE LOVED YOUR SHOW. SO IF YOU ALL SEE ANT MARKS OR BRUISES ON HIM IN FUTURE SHOWS YOU WILL KNOW WHAT HAPPENED.

Great show! I have a new respect for all the artists involved!
Diana says:
Re. John’s fur coats, maybe they are fake fur. Fake fur looks absolutely real, when you buy the good ones, but are much lighter as well as warm. I too agree the shows should be one hour and focus more on their music and less on BB. I agree with JR that the producers screwed up putting them in rhinestones, etc. Ive seen few country stars dressed like that, they mostly seem to go casual or denim, esp. the men. Making them wear something they are not comfortable in will probably affect their performances. I know the days I go to work and dont feel dressed right or my hair isnt good, Im too uncomfortable to be as productive.
Melanie says:
LOVE the fur coats John! “Anumal rights” is bologna brand of politics that does not belong in Country Music. Thanks for making a stand.
Alexis Massey says:
Diana is perfect maybe too perfect that why i know she won’t win!!!!! Watch people sisqo is going to win. lol He is well rounded!!!!!!!!!

I love John Rich and Gone Country. I can tell by listening to him that he is a very caring and giving person. So please tell me that the fur coats he wears are fake.
Kathy R. says:
John needs to make it clear on his show that the furs are fake.
TK says:
Love the show. Moving to TN soon from Los Angeles area and am ramping up on country stuff. I’ve inadvertantly learned to love country cause it’s a venue where I can dance without going to meat markets. (And I don’t mean line dancing)Loved John immediately. What a gift he has with people. He has the gift of edification. I find him totally hot. The frequent drink in his hand makes me think I’m attracted to yet another alcoholic. Very charming people they can be. That must be how Bobby got Whitney cause he comes off as a looser to me. After the coffee incident I’m glad to see Dee isn’t a total butt. He seems to be going along with everything with a good attitude despite how arrogant he seems.
Michael says:
I love the show I don’t miss a show I’m a big fan I was raise on country my whole life and can’t wait to see how the show turns out
Juliofan08 says:
I really am loving this show. I’ll be sad when it finishes. I saw someone mention them bringing a dvd out. Well i hope they do because i would definetly buy it.
Just want to say also, Happy Birthday to Julio Jr, he’s 35 years old today! I hope he’s having a great day!

JeannaInMN says:
I first started watching “Gone Country” for the interest of wondering how the stars could go country? What the heck is this about? Anyway, now I am watching because of Mr. Rich. HELLO! He seems so REAL, intelligent, fun, and HOT! Don’t ask Gretchen out, ask ME! LOL
I grew up in the country on grandpa’s farm, horses, cows, tractors, Waylon, Willie, Kenny, Johnny, the whole bit. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. And thanks to Brad Paisley for bringing me back to country music and Big and Rich for making me love it again.
diane says:
I watched Dianas song on youtube…It was a crummy sound situation but it was an incredible song and she was so in tune with the audience…talking to them..and having fun…And the introduction for her was great..She HAD to win…she was great..I just hope she didn’t get ripped off and disappointed like on AI..I went back and listened to her songs on there on youtube and she should have won…She is endearing…serious about her music..polite …talented..and just plain sweet…I will be disappointed if she didn’t win..

Not trying to spam the board, but the rest of the cast have clickable working CMT links to messageboards & official webpages yet I’ve posted twice to ask CMT to fix the broken Julio Jr links on this website, with no results. It’s easy for anyone to find examples of the rest of the cast performing, but not so much for Jj. He has a large following in Spain, where he was born; he came to live in the USA when he was a small child, was raised and educated all the way thru college here. He travels back & forth regularly between Madrid and Miami. Like Diana, he’s younger than the rest of the cast…and like Diana, Julio Jr a very polite and well-mannered person who would also be an excellent role model. Having met him and having spent a good bit of time with him, it’s obvious to me that the “latin lover” label is quite ridiculous and misplaced, especially since he’s been in a longterm relationship for several years. I wish JR could pick 2 winners–Diana as the female to win and also Julio Jr as the male! =)
Mary says:
Just wanted to say hey and tell everyone in the show I was never much of a country fan but this show is changing my mind. John Rich is great and I really have to admire everyone who’s participating in this challenge. You are all wonderful performers in your own right and to go outside your comfort zone to try something new takes a lot of guts. Each of you has something special about you that lights up the stage so the important thing to remember is to be yourself. Just take a look at yourself from a new angle. And don’t worry, Dee. It took me a while to learn line dancing too. But you’re gonna rock this thing! If a yankee like me can learn it so can you!

Peggy says:
Tell you what I think, John Rich looks good in ANYTHING!! Does he have his hands full? OH YEA especially with Bobby Brown and Dee Snider but from what I’ve seen of the ladies, Maureen and Carnie in particular, I think they really want to do well and I hope they do well, even if they don’t win this thing. But again, John honey, look me up!! I’m sure you hear that alot but hey, what can it hurt? lol
Barb says:
This old fuddy-dud loves the show! Bobby & Maureen’s relationship is hilarious; Dee is full of himself while Diana, Julio,& Sisqo all seem to be a bit reserved, maybe due to their youth. (Maybe they just were reared well.) Carny seems to portray a bit of being a “mother hen”. Maybe I have it all wrong & we are just seeing what the editors want us to see. Anyway, really looking forward to their “country singing”.
Tammy Armstrong says:
Hey John!
How about giving us some live streaming, so we can watch what is going on in the JR house 24/7. Wish you were going to be playing @ Country Fever in Pryor this year, we are going to miss seeing you and Big Kenny play!!!

Love Music even like some of yours - Not so much for this Gone Country thing you’re doin. I could do better but I have to work for a living (actually retired from one job and now working my second career) can’t take time off - bills to pay. I’m not a drama queen like the group you have here that only have reality shows because they can’t do hard work for a living and they are easy to make fools of. God forbid these folks ever figure that some hard work once in awhile don’t hurt. However, being Country and even writing country is more than being on a country “reality” show for a short period of time in their life and I think you are doing an injustice to those of us who came from the country.
Had to turn it off

Well, it just gets better and better. The more I see the more I want. I think that each and everyone of these artists are very tatented in their own rite. I think whoever wins will have a real shot. GOOD LUCK TO ALL. i would also love to see the pics of J.R. without his hat. It is not the the smoke on top that matters, it’s the fire below. In our world today as it is, we don’t spend as much time getting to know one another as we do picking out the physical faults. J.R. you can bring all of your faults physical or otherwise (I doubt there are very many), I like a challenge.
Jennifer Albrecht says:
Hey John I really enjoy watching the show. It is the show thats come on in awhile. Keep up the great work.
Rhonda says:
Dear John, Hey there! I think the show is a success and it will be on again next year and you should have a hour instead of 30 mins. The group that is picked is great too. Red, yellow, black, and white the more the better. That’s the way GOD intened it to be! BB does get more air time, or it seems so. Sisgo seems to be the best rounded person. Moe is great. She just needs to go for it! Carnie is great too and she just needs to do it! Diana is sweet and she will no doubt record more tunes. Julio seems a bit spoiled but he is very polite. Dee, on the first show you were my least fav. but as the show has gone on you are my FAVORITE. You have deep feelings and aren’t afraid to express them. I hope you WIN!! JOHN, the show would NOT be any good without you. I love your honesty and sincerety! Your house isn’t half bad either, haha! I love to write songs. I have just about lived thru all the hard times someone could. Let’s just put it, I’ve had my share and others too. I hope to see another season of “GONE COUNTRY”.

A reply to MTW. I know it seems that these people don’t know what hard work is all about, but I can guarantee you that they have worked hard their entire lives. You do realise how hard show business is!
They tour the world and do 30 or more shows in 22 or so days. They have to work on their music, find time for family, friends and themselves and that is not always easy to do.
I know for a fact that when Sisqo was trying to make it in the music business, with Dru Hill, he had to work 3 jobs to try and help raise his child. He would have been only about 16yrs old working 3 jobs, going to school and doing talent shows etc to try and make it.
Just because they don’t like to wash cars and clean up horse crap doesn’t mean they don’t understand hard work.
Nashville Rocks says:
Diana definitely won, there’s no doubt in my mind.
Susie says:
Just a couple of comments: First: I’ve seen pics of John without his hat and he is still HOT!! Look at Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, and other male country artists when they take their cowboy hats off they look different too, but they still look good!! Anyway, attraction is not all about looks, it’s about what’s inside you and who you are that truly matters. John is a gifted talented musician, songwriter, singer and performer who also seems to be a nice guy who cares about others. With or without your hat John, I still love you.
Secondly: John and Big Kenny have earned their success after riding out some really bumpy years. I could not be happier for the two of them as they really deserve the success they’ve achieved. I have been a fan of Big and Rich since the beginning and when they first started a lot of people didn’t like them, they were too different, not country. Well, how wrong were those people because John and Kenny not only sing and perform country songs written by themselves but artists like Faith Hill, Jason Aldean, and Tim McGraw have recorded and had number one hits with songs written by John and Kenny. And John Rich has been named ‘Song writer of the year’ three consecutive years in a row which has never been done before. Way to go John!! I can’t wait to see them in concert this summer, already have my tickets and hopefully will get a chance to meet the guys and say ‘thank you’.
Love everybody,
Susie
P.S. Need more comments in these blogs and emails sent to CMT to get the shows put out on DVD, that would be awesome.
Shelley says:
This show is the most entertaining guilty pleasure that I have. I watch it with my 6 year old son and he even loves it. The line dance had us laughing out loud. Sisqo has the moves!!! What a great dancer. These people are real. I sing…and am mortified to sing in front of people. My hats off to these guys that can do it, even with their insecurities. My question is: Who’s house are they staying in? WOW!!!! That place rocks. John, you crack me up. You look like a true pimp getting off of that helicopter. Who cares if you wear fur…I’d do it if I could afford it. Thank you for this show and giving us something to look forward to.
KarahD says:
This show is so great….I just wish that I could see MORE of it! I mean really…is 30 minutes a week really going to be enough of JR????
Anna says:
Oh goodness I think J.R needs to just do a show with him. I don’t care what its aboutas long as he is in it. I’m wishing right now I could hope on a plane an go to TN lol. Love the show too but really love J.R. Oh an how many people saw how he kissed Diana DeGarmo hand when she got on stag! We need more men like this!
Rosie says:
John, you havewaaaayyyyy too much money, if you have to throw it away on this garbage…The only contestants with any class are Diana and Iglasias. I feel sorry for them to be thrown into the company of the rest of those idiots. Bobby Brown is disgusting on all levels. And if YOU are going to parade around in fur coats on national t.v., you would do well to confirm, either way, whether they are fake furs or not—unless your are afraid that the animal lovers of the world will NOT buy your albums if they know the truth…I was a fan of Big & Rich, but not so much now..I’m sorry CMT saw fit to put you on.
Brenda from Tennessee says:
When I saw the part where everyone was getting sick I thought to myself “Welcome to Tennessee”! I’ve heard that Tennessee is one of the worst states for sinus & upper respitory problems. Also the weather here is sometimes weird (which don’t help sinus , allergies & respitory systems). One day it can be in the 60’s & the next day it can snow!!!! I’d like to say Good Luck to all the cast, hope you enjoyed your visit to Tennessee & ya’ll come back!!!!
Jessi James says:
John,
I think alot of what you are teaching them about the industry is true and often times “Editing” doesn’t quite get it right when it’s put all together.
In someways trying to be a country artist and put you self out there for the long haul is harder than singing in other types of music.
Anyway, if you all need another wild singer to add to you area - how about a former snake charmer and if that ain’t a story I don’t know what one is..I have a load of crazy jobs just like that one.
Keep up the great work and I love your blogs.
Cooper says:
this show sucks and i hate big and Rich… i want hank thompson, waylon, and earl scruggs music back… shame on you mr rich for calling you and this lame show country.. and smashing guitars is a sin in any kind of music…
mrsflash49 says:
Again, I will say 30 minutes is not long enough per episode. It needs a good 60 minutes..
Love this show!! Can’t wait until the next episode every week!
This episode was very interesting and it was great to see some real singing going on for a change. I agree the cast
should have equal air time..I however think that this episode could have been better spent elsewhere. Image is important yes, but you don’t have to have expensive clothing to show it. Us real country folk wouldn’t dress that way. Of course the country artist has a right to spend their hard earned dollars any way they wish, but it burns me up in some instances how it gets flaunted when people are starving, homeless, etc. in our country. A perfect example is the $800,000. dollar dress with all the diamonds Carrie Underwood wore to an awards ceremony a couple years ago..I believe that was the amount, but I may be wrong, so sorry folks..who gives a fig as long as you can sing a great country song..
I think JR is doing a great job as host and hope that they will keep this show going as in my previous comments..
Can’t wait for tomorrow night for the new episode..
GONE COUNTRY EVERYONE..HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!

Hey Donzidoll, thanks for the links! I wasn’t a big Julio fan before this show, (i’m huge fan of his bro Enrique and didn’t know a lot about JJ’s career) so i was intrigued to see what JJ was like and i can tell you i like what i see. Like his bro he is sweet and a down to earth funny guy. Not to mention drop dead gorgeous lol! I agree about the “Latin lover” thing, they try to pin the same label on Enrique which is quite ridiculous too because he’s such a dork! ( and i mean that in the nicest possible way lol!) I’ve already had the pleasure of meeting Enrique and i would love to meet Julio jr one day. He’s got a new fan in me! Julio to win! And second place Carnie, she rocks!
Hilari says:
I completely agree with Jr. It happens all the time with people from the “country.” Those not from the “country” think that we are all cowboys or cowgirls and we all adon cowboy hats and are dumber than a box of rocks. I’ve met many a cowboy and they dress just like everyone else, but there are times when they wear the typical cowboy wear. I feel that it is wrong to sterotype people based on where they are from. If we all did that, then people from like New York or places like that would all be precieved to adorn suits and ties and be very stuck on themselves and rude. I’m sure not all people from the big cities are not like that. Just my opinion.
DonziDoll says:
Hey there, Juliofan08! Glad you enjoyed those links! If Enrique is anything in person like Julio Jose I am sure that your had a wonderful experience meeting! =) BTW, I have read that Jj has a new CD coming out this spring, not sure of its release in the USA, but his website will be

Juliofan08 says:
Hi Donzidoll, yeah i read on the Hola magazine website that he’s releasing a new Spanish cd also. I’m sure you’ll be able to buy it online if it doesn’t get released in the US. I’ll be buying it anyway….. Enrique is just as funny and down to earth as JJ and you’re right it was a wonderful experience that i will never forget, ever!

Great show !!!!!! I really liked the line dance segment. What is the name of the dance and how do I get it? We have been looking for a dance to do to John’s song and no luck.
countrychick says:
Wow! These people have no idea what it would take to bale a field of hay! To go out and round up cattle, to catch a loose horse. I’m not sure I can believe their “country” song. I like the artists as they were, but don’t think they’ll be believable in country!
Silver05 says:
I would love for John to host another show and have contestants that love to sing, but do not have means of taking it any further. I am a 36 year old, mother of 2 who would love to be given a chance to pursue singing. I love singing and sing alot in local clubs around town when the have open mic or karaoke nights. Not only would a show like this give contestants an opportunity to possibly make a recording, but an opportunity to do something they would never get a chance to do otherwise. I love the show and I really enjoy watching the transformations that the cast members are making.

I am 75 years old and am absolutely addicted to Gone Country. I watch every episode and all the reruns that are on of them. I just wish it was an hour long program and I surely hope that John can come up with something as good when this is over. John, you are terrific also and you tell it like it is. I wish everyone could be as honest. Thanks for a great show.

brodie says:
As much as i love big and rich and country music John Rich should be shunned from country music for choosing this guy. His song sounds like every other one of his songs and am very disappointed in this. No to mention that he does not represent country music at all!!! I can wait to see when this guy fails in country music!!!!!!!! Of course what can we say bout this big and rich choose Cowboy Troy!!!
Wolfy says:
All the girls sounded country. None of the guys did. I can’t choose. Carnie, Maureen, Diana; you were all good.
Sylvia says:
I didn’t agree with J.R. on his selection but I guess that is why I don’t have as much money as he has either. I asked before if the log home used to belong to Barbara Mandrell, does anyone know? My personal choice would have beedsn Bobby or Maureen.
Joellen & Claude says:
Well, John Rich, it looks like you really sold out to the screaming ladies and the Latino fans….someone from the show (producers? sponsers?) must have gotten to you for you to have selected Julio I. Jr. for the one artist with whom you would produce a CD….First of all he[s lazy and wouldn’t do his part when it came time to work…check out the car wash video….secondly, he wasn’t even attempting to learn the dance steps for the line dancing and thirdly and MOST IMPORTANTLY….HE SANG THE DANG SONG PARTLY IN SPANISH! Hello!!!!!! So in effect, you picked a lazy Latino lover who no more sounds like a country singer than his father does ( who I really like)….Guess the political correctness of show business has gotten to you, too….My boyfriend and I are going to check out who your sponsers are and make sure we don’t buy their products! We feel we were really sold down the river (as in “El Rio”) for being fans of your show!
